Brow Hair Lifting Kabuki Brush Diorshow Brow Styler Review

The Diorshow Kabuki Brow Styler has a hair-lifting kabuki brush on one end, and a triangular pencil tip on the other. What’s there not to like right? My review of this eyebrow pencil in 032 Dark Brown tells you otherwise.

Eyebrow Hair Lifting Kabuki Brush Diorshow Eyebrow Pencil in 032 Dark Brown

This Diorshow eyebrow pencil comes with a micro kabuki brush supposedly for some eyebrow hair lifting action after you’ve deposited the pencil pigment on the brows. It also boasts a revolutionary pencil tip that is triangular-shaped for easy precision when it comes to sculpting your desire eyebrow shapes. These all seem novel and meticulously thought out…that is, until you’ve had a personal go at it.

Texture

I’ll give it to Dior that I got a lot of pigment mileage from this kabuki brow styler. Each stroke is loaded with pigment even as you work with little pressure. The texture of the product is somewhere between a crayon and pencil. During application, it does not offer the kind of slick you need when you feather in light strokes. With a wax-like texture like this you’d expect the product to provide some structure to the brow hairs such that when it gets deposited on to the eyebrows, the brow hair strands appear accentuated.

What a Loopy Kabuki!

This is one confusing brow pencil for me if you’ve watched my short demo video above. The tiny kabuki brush that comes with this brow pencil is supposed to distribute the pigment when you comb through your brows with it. So I figured, depending on how much pressure I put in combing my eyebrows, it will either even out the eyebrow makeup base shade or help to coat each strand of brow hair with the product such that they appear flocked and thickened. I could not be more wrong – I found myself going back and forth filling in my eyebrows only to have the kabuki brush removing some pigment with each brushing; to the point the eyebrows got all patchy and shapeless. I would appreciate if you guys could leave me a comment on my video and guide me a thing or two if I had done something wrong here.

The Eyebrow Pencil Triangular Cartridge

So the Dior girl blew me away with its triangular shaped brow pencil shaft. I was told that when the cartridge is shaped this way the edges provide more precision in the brow shaping and sculpting process. Again, if only this made more sense in application than it sounds. With just a few strokes, the tip got rounded down on all three sides, leaving the tip a teardrop shape. What happened next with this resulted in broader strokes which makes feathering in even more difficult. At the 2:14 mark of the video, you’ll get to see how my brow head got messed up by this. Just putting it out here that I can usually control my brow filling technique quite well. And because I’m not one who particularly like squeaky clean brows, I don’t reach for concealers to define my eyebrow shapes. I however caved in because the brows were looking too ungroomed.

Shades

Not sure if it is this shade or the same problem with every other shade in the line (they have 6 shades – 001 Blond, 003 Brown, 005 Black, 011 Gold Blond, 031 Light Brown, 032 Dark Brown (featured here)), but as you can see from the end of the video, the tone and intensity of the shade on my brows differ greatly during the day and under night light.

They say eyebrows are sisters, not twins. But mine were feral siblings. A little concealer did help in getting the shapes out of them to some extent, but getting them to look even was impossible, as even correcting them was challenging. I may not have have used the Diorshow Kabuki Brow Styler the way it is supposed to be used, but one thing is for sure, the kabuki brush is too dense to be able to diffuse the shade properly. Perhaps if it has sparser bristles it wouldn’t be picking up more pigment than it should.

The Diorshow Kabuki Brow Styler retails at SGD$44.00 at Singapore Sephora online and stores, as well as at Singapore Christian Dior beauty counters.
