Removal of Eye Bags with Lymphatic Drainage Face Massage

Removal of eye bags is possible with lymphatic drainage face massage caused by fluid build-up around the eye socket (periorbital edema). Fluid is accumulated in lymph nodes in our faces and body when our lymphatic system is not functioning properly, causing the tissues and cells to not drain out bodily fluids efficiently. Lymphatic facial massage helps with fluid transportation throughout our system, and boosts blood circulation and oxygen flow to de-puff eye bags and reduce facial swelling by flushing out lymphatic fluids.

How To Reduce Eye Bags with Lymphatic Drainage Face Massage

Lymphatic drainage massage therapy also help in the temporary removal of eye bags due to the sagging of orbital fat deposit in the pocket of our under eye areas. As we age, we develop droopy eye bags because of collagen loss in our cheeks, the fat pad that serves as cushion under our eyes loses support as well. Applying pressure (often rhythmic) during a drainage massage to the face stimulates the lymph vessels and firms the muscles around the eyes.

Water Retention in Face causes Swelling Under Eyes

When water retention occurs in the face, this causes swelling under the eyes. As most of the lymph glands or nodes are located at the neck and head areas, the fluid pools in those facial cavities without getting discharged and distributed throughout the system due to poor circulation. As such, the under eye areas become distended, causing the appearance of swollen eye bags.

Swollen Under Eye Bags Remedy

Swollen under eye bags do have a temporary remedy and that is giving a facial lymphatic massage by scraping and applying rhythmic pressure not only on the affected under eye areas but also on where the lymph nodes on the face are such as the sides of the nose, in front of the ears, behind the ears, down the sides of the neck, above the collarbone, nape, as well as the back lower half of the head.

Facial Lymph Nodes Massage

Facial lymph nodes massages help in the depuffing of eye bags because the direct pressures on the soft tissue pushes and moves the fluid to flush and release toxins from the body.

The lymph nodes in our face and body are all connected by lymphoid tissues and vessels, and they communicate with one another in the lymphatic system. The function of lymph nodes is essentially to filter out waste and antigens from our blood, so that clean and healthy fluids return to our circulatory system for the delivery of nutrients to our cells.

Lymphatic Eye Massage Therapy

Lymphatic under eye massage therapy, such as gentle tapping around the orbital bones around the eyes, outward swipes along the cheek bones, upward radiating pushes across the forehead, etc, can boost blood circulation and help with the physical firming up of the obicularis eye muscles. However by applying lymph nodes facial massage techniques on the face, neck, nape and around the ears can help to reduce under eye puffiness, because fluid retention in these areas can be pushed out to make way for the fluid in the tear troughs under the eyes to drain off as well. I’ve done a quick tour of how to use the jade heart Gua Sha tool in this YouTube Short video, watch if you’re keen.

Swelling Under Eye Bags Removal by Gua Sha

Swelling under eye bags removal by Gua Sha is possible. Gua Sha is a traditional Chinese medicinal practice in dispersing “Qi” or “Chi” (energy flow within the organ-to-organ communication system) in our body using skin scraping massage techniques. Drinking enough water also helps to speed up the toxins flushing process. It would seem ironical that water is needed to get rid of water retention, but because periorbital edema is caused by fluid trapped in our facial and body tissues due to the imbalanced hydration level attributed to hormonal changes, excessive sodium, or even sitting and standing postures, you need water as a medium to stimulate the fluid flow to rid of waste and obstructions with the help of an optimal hydration level in our body system. However do take note that we should limit our water consumption a couple of hours before sleep to avoid swelling of the body as well as the under eyes during those hours we are asleep and not able to discharge fluids.

How to Use Gua Sha to Reduce Under Eye Bags

How to apply and use Gua Sha techniques to reduce under eye bags in unblocking these stagnations is by scraping and applying acupressure around the orbital bones as well as across and above the cheekbones in upward sweeping motions to lift the saggy tissue of the eye bags. Radiating the pressure across the forehead from the eyebrows towards the hairline and temples also help in redirecting and redistributing the Qi to the rest of our facial tissues, in which case after, by scraping the sides of the neck from your jaw towards the collarbone also helps in lymphatic draining and reduces swelling under the eye bags. You may watch my Youtube Short video above for these scraping strokes if you haven’t yet.
