Chanel Les Tarots Matte Powder Purple Blush Review
The Chanel Les Tarots Matte Powder Blush comes in two limited edition shades – Lavender and Blood Orange. The Les Tarots Blushes are part of the Fall-Winter 2024 makeup collection, so I was not surprised about one being a Fall shade and the other a Winter colour. The Blood Orange one is of a bolder, terracotta/ brick shade and I’m not sure if my already flushed skin could handle it. My beauty advisor tried the lavender one on my under eye areas, before sweeping it towards my cheeks. There and then I saw how it colour-corrected my dull dark circles. So I purchased this Chanel purple blush for reasons more than one, seeing how versatile it is. Here’s my review.
Chanel Purple Blush: Blusher for Cheeks & Correcting Powder for Face
On the above left photo, I used the brush applicator (included in the Les Tarots powder blush compact) to sweep and swirl it onto only the apples of my cheeks. This may be a matte formula, but it contains mica, which explains the slight luminous effect here. The result was a soft glow taking the edge off the unflattering redness on my cheeks.
Purple Blush on Cheeks
I was not expecting some kind of lavender-tinted cheeks, because even when I build it up, the colour is still too translucent to be noticeable. I feel that this light and airy lavender shade would only be more prominent on both sides of the spectrum, i.e. on very fair to fair skin tones, or golden to darker skin tones. It may turn out lavender, lilac, or mauve depending on the individual’s skin undertones.
I have medium skin tone, with a yellow undertone. There was just not enough contrast for the blush to pop on my cheeks, and I get it.
Purple Blush on Yellow Undertoned Skin
On the right photo, I use a powder setting brush to dust the light purple blush all over my face as a finishing powder. Purple and yellow are complementary colours. This is why it evens out my skin’s yellow undertone and diffuses my underlying red blotchy skin when I use it as a setting powder for the face. And just like that, a matte finishing powder and a colour corrector in one. With a bonus subtle healthy glow to top things off too. Both photos above were taken during the day under natural daylight.
Les Tarots De CHANEL Matte Powder Blush in Lavender on deeper skin tone
On a separate occasion I used the Les Tarots de CHANEL Matte powder blush on just the cheeks. But this photo was taken indoors under ambient lighting. Over here, the lavender blush appears more visible. This is because with the lack of sunlight, my skin tone appears deeper. And with deeper skin tone comes a more pronounced blush contrast.
The way the Chanel Les Tarots blush performs is similar to the Hourglass Ambient lighting blush effect. It has a way of diffusing the light that bounces off the skin. It is able to highlight the cheeks and skin ever so gently. So the flushed skin appears less harsh, and transforms into an overall even complexion with a healthy glow.
The Chanel Les Tarots Matte Powder Blush retails at SGD$107.00 on Singapore Chanel website and at beauty boutiques. I would not usually spend over a hundred dollars on any blush. But since this doubles as a colour correcting setting powder, it was a good value for the money.
