Lancome Advanced Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate
I know, I know, I’m going to get a lot of hate from this post. Who would’ve thought the cult favourite Lancome Génifique Serum to go in a rut for me? Look, it didn’t screw my skin up or anything, it just did not do much for my skin. Here’s my experience if you’re interested.
The Lancome Génifique serum debuted back in 2009, but was reformulated in 2019. The updated version is enriched with 7 pre- & probiotic derived extracts. Its predeccesor focused primarily on Bifida Ferment Lysate, a probiotic derived from fermented yeast, while the current one adopts a “Microbiome Science” approach, incorporating 7 pre- & probiotic fractions to support a healthier skin microbiome.
The texture feels neither too runny nor too thick. Many have described its scent to be citrusy, but I find it to have a more soapy, albeit mild, hint.
Lancome Génifique Serum: Balancing, Firming & Brightening
The Lancome Advanced Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate serum contains three main active ingredients: Prebiotics and Probiotics Fractions, Hyaluronic Acid, and Vitamin CG. Generally, these ingredients help with supporting the skin’s natural balance, moisture and healthy skin tone. The Lancome Génifique serum also promises to boost skin radiance while effectively minimises the signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles.
Pre- & Probiotic Fractions for Skin Balancing
Prebiotics and Probiotics work together to rebalance the microbiome for the skin. Essentially, probiotics feed off prebiotics to proliferate beneficial bacteria. These good bacteria help to maintain and improve the skin’s natural barrier function as well as defence mechanisms. Together, pre- and probiotic fractions can improve many aspects of the skin. These include the healthy balance of moisture and oil, reduced sensitivity, and even-toned complexion with no dullness or discolouration.
Hyaluronic Acid for Skin Hydration
Hyaluronic Acid (HA) has the abilities to attract and retain moisture for the skin. It is naturally-occurring in our body, and is a vital component for plump, hydrated skin. The serum’s advanced formula targets more than just surface-level hydration. It encourages the skin to produce its own HA, creating a long-lasting hydration effect.
Vitamin CG for Skin Brightening
Vitamin CG is a stable form of vitamin C, and is also known as Ascorbyl Glucoside. It does a few beneficial things for the skin, including fighting free radical damage and minimising oxidative stress because of its potent antioxidant properties. Additionally, it also reduces melanin synthesis by slowing down the enzyme tyrosinase from making more melanin pigment. Thus, vitamin CG helps to decrease dark spots and hyperpigmentation, for an overall brighter complexion.
Lancome Génifique Serum Review
Regrettably, among the Lancôme skincare products I’ve tried, the best-selling Lancome Advanced Génifique serum has had the least impact on my skin, if any. I had positive experiences with both the Lancome Genifique Eye Cream and Yeux Light Pearl, so I’m wondering why my skin isn’t responding to the Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate.
Although the Lancome Genifique serum is universally suitable for all skin types, I do not find it to help my oily skin much. I know it is primarily formulated to address signs of aging, and uneven skin texture. However, it should be able to indirectly regulate sebum production if the skin barrier function has improved. The serum does not cause excessive sebum; it just does not control nor exacerbate it.
Likewise, skin redness, enlarged pores, and age spots did not improve nor worsen. Lancome Advanced Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate’s key selling points include improving skin’s radiance, smoothness and evenness (proven clinical parameters). And then there were also claims that it improves fine lines, wrinkles, pores and firmness. The Lancome Advanced Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate provided good hydration and comfort, but it didn’t visibly diminish my fine lines or lighten my age spots. While the Genifique serum made my skin feel a bit softer and develop a slight luminosity, I didn’t notice any significant anti-aging benefits overall.
