Artdeco Eye Primer Eyeshadow Makeup Base Review

Artdeco Eye Primer Eyeshadow Makeup Base Review Singapore

The Artdeco Eyeshadow Base is essentially an eye primer and makeup base contained in a 5ml tub. I’ve been using this eye primer for about 3 months now and so far I have a positive review of it for you. I’m not one who usually use an eye primer although I have oily eyelids because, for one , I’m not really into any fancy eye makeup and so I do not have anything more than a single shade on my eye lid at any one time, and two, I do not want any additional eye product weighing on my already heavy eye skin folds. Heck I don’t even line my eyes. And so despite my hooded eyelids which creases my eye makeup more than anyone’s eye lid does, I do not see eye primers as need. However there is this one eyeshadow that creases the crap out of me – the RMS Eye Polish – so much so that it creases on me within 30 minutes into application. The time I got frustrated with this was about the same time I got my hands on the Artdeco eyeshadow base primer, and boy does it save me.

Packaging

So this Artdeco eye primer comes in this tiny black glossy 5ml pot. When you pop the cap open you’ll see that the product is sort of like a beige cream-solid.

Shade/ Texture

It certainly doesn’t look satiny or makes you think it could feel silky to the touch but it does in both cases. You can see from the video how much of a sheen it gives under light, however let not this trick you into believing that it is oily; not that you think grease helps to hold makeup anyway. The whole experience of dipping my finger in picking up the product and applying it versus setting it in preparation for the laying over of eyeshadows is kinda weird. The texture just transforms itself from silky to pasty under 30 seconds, and before you know it, the base sets matte and unbudged, not even with a powdery feel, unlike some cream products that dry down to powders. It feels as if there’s some kind of a grit – an anti-slip film over my eye lid, which is weirdly amazing to say the least.

Creasing, Application & Longevity Tests

So to fully test out the Artdeco eye primer, I decided to put the product through a series of tests switching between fingers and makeup brushes, and from powder to cream eyeshadows.

So what I’ve found out is that when you apply the eyeshadow with your finger over the Artdeco eye primer base, the shade is more intensive compared to if you were to apply the eyeshadow with a brush. Matte shadows appear more pigmented and shimmery ones turn into wet foiled looks when your finger does the job. While applying with fingers get you the color payoff you want, using a brush to apply eyeshadows over this base allows them to blend and build really well on top of one another. Eye Primer & Makeup Base that Does Not Distort Eyeshadows

One observation though – no matter which applicator you use, the result with this eyeshadow base always show the true shades of the eyeshadows as how they appear in the pans. You know when you use a concealer, or any other eye primers (I’d tried a couple of others before this one) to prime your eyelids or no eye primer at all, the eyeshadows tend to differ from how they look like in your pan or eyeshadow palettes. Our skin color, concealer shades and other tinted primers may hold up the longevity of the makeup but not the original colors of it.

Verdict:

Best Eye Primer for Salvaging Eyeshadows

I’ve read reviews of those who’d used the Artdeco eyeshadow primer base having trouble with matte shadows. I must say, that could be totally avoidable because I’m pretty sure they’d used this primer with the already pigmented, good quality matte shadows, of which, could do without a primer base in the first place. I know this because I tried this eye primer with the matte shades of my Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance eyeshadow palette. Yes, the shadows turned out patchy on the base; the product broke the shades apart and they could not blend. But I’ve used the ABH palette so many times now and I couldn’t recall when was the last time I’d needed a primer to pair it with. This eye palette didn’t get 5 stars reviews for no reason – it could pretty much be used alone – so using it with the primer base does neither justice and serves no point. This is why I deliberately picked the weakest eyeshadow palette in my collection. These are the shadows that need help and the Artdeco eyeshadow base has precisely proven its game changing capabilities with these ones.
