Sulwhasoo Radiance Energy Mask Review

I’ve been using the Sulwhasoo Radiance Energy Mask for about 4 months now, but it wasn’t until after about a month of using it that I’d noticed what it could do to my skin. In the process of reviewing this face mask I discovered a couple of things that surprises me with this product. Read on to find out how this facial mask works so uniquely.

Sulwhasoo Radiance Energy Mask vs Overnight Vitalizing Mask Review

Prior to using the Sulwhasoo Radiance Energy Mask, I’ve had my face on the more popular Sulwhasoo Overnight Vitalizing Mask for a few months as well. While the latter refines pores better, it didn’t measure up to the few aspects my skin requires more of compared to its Radiance Energy counterpart.

The Sulwhasoo Radiance Energy Mask is a clarifying and exfoliating (no abrasive effect) overnight leave-in mask that also energizes the skin and allowing nourishment to be absorbed more quickly. While both masks promise to boost radiance and glow to the skin (for that matter both didn’t deliver the glow factor too well), the Sulwhasoo Radiance Energy Mask does increase skin translucency and brightness much better than the Overnight Vitalizing one.

Packaging

The Sulwhasoo Radiance Energy Mask comes in an 80ml white tub with a jade green cap and spatula (not real jade) to scoop up the product. They do also come in 15ml travel sized tubes, but those aren’t available in Singapore as far as I know.

First Impression/ Texture/ Color

The product is a moderately heavy, glossy white cream, leaving stiff peaks as you scooped along.

On application, it doesn’t seem like it is able to seep well into the pores. It feels quite rich, a little tacky and, brace yourselves ladies, especially those with the same skin type as mine, it leaves your skin greasy. The skin gets oilier into the night, but it tells a totally different story the next morning.

How It Works

The Sulwhasoo Radiance Energy Mask boasts a certain “Jadesphere” technology in which nano capsules (not noticeable by sight or by touch) catalyzes the delivery of “energy” to the skin so everything works not only more intensively but faster as well.

Even though the spatula was made of plastic, the product does contain circular capsules of jade. In ancient China, Jade is believed to have healing properties on health, and jade rollers are long known and used for skincare benefits for boosting blood circulation, and this in itself improves skin texture and skin tone by smoothing and reducing puffiness as well as having an anti-inflammatory effect due to lymphatic drainage. So other than using the spatula for obvious sanitary reason, I double it up as a mini ‘guasha’ tool (because it is shaped similarly to one on one edge), by going over the contours of my face in gentle lifting movements after applying and massaging the mask into my skin. The mask gives the necessary slip to the spatula moving against the skin while providing an appropriate amount of pressure on the facial muscles in relieving tension as the blood circulates beneath.

Sulwhasoo Review: Best Face Mask for Brightening & Evening Out Skin Tone goes to Radiance Energy Mask

For the benefit of those who have similar skin type/ issues as mine, my skin is of normal/ oily combination, yellow toned, has random redness often at the wrong areas such as between the brows, above the brows, below the nose, inner cheeks, etc, with enlarged pores around the nose and chin. This is my bare face in the morning when I just woke up. No filter, no makeup, not even cleansed; just straight up from my bed.

Evens Out Skin Tone

I’m not saying I have perfect skin here but this is the best I’ve had since more than 6 months ago (prior to when I was on Glossier’s Solution – another skin saver of which I’ll do a separate review). I noticed that my skin has become more translucent, and how the healthy flushes come through at the right places. The redness around my brows are gone, and the cheeks are now naturally rosy on the apples instead of just outside the nose.  This might have proven the blood circulating part right. I’ll not credit the mild skin glow you see here to the mask but the natural sebum my skin let out slightly overnight. BUT. Read on.

Controls Oil

Now this is the surprising part. My skin’s known to be shiny from oozing too much oil the next morning. And I’ve complaint about how greasy this mask made me right? This is my experience: for the first couple of weeks, I was on the brinks of giving away this mask because it made my skin oilier than it already was, no matter how little I’d used. Fortunately I held that decision back and continue using it into the 3rd week, but not without switching up my skincare routine. For the first 2 weeks I applied this mask after my toner, but this time, I use this Sulwhasoo Radiance Energy Mask alone. Yes, I applied it directly on freshly cleansed skin and then nothing more. And that was when I started to see what this sleep-mask could do – it actually made my skin less oily. Like, i didn’t know it could do oil-control but it does very well; only allowing a little oil to permeate overnight, so the skin feels supple the next day. What followed were days with significantly lesser acne breakouts.

Exfoliating, Evens Out Skin Texture

Here’s another fact: it also helps to smooth out my skin texture, I’ve had much lesser bumps now and that might have explained the skin’s increased translucency; so this mask does exfoliate, if only you allow it to do the work progressively over a number of weeks.

So, whatever Sulwhasoo says about energizing the skin so as to allow better and faster absorption of nutrients – I don’t get half of it. Was it to say, that it helps with the absorption of its own nutrients or the absorption of the subsequent products I lay on? Also, whether it works better on its own or it’d simply meant that it had to take more than a couple of weeks to prove its worth…I couldn’t tell.

But while it doesn’t shrink pores or give glow, and you’ll have to figure out the answers to the above questions on your own, the Sulwhasoo Radiance Energy Mask has been a skin-changer nonetheless. If you have a similar skin type as mine, I’d say the chances of it working for you is pretty high.
