The Benefit Fake Up Hydrating Crease-Control Concealer is a concealer stick that targets at filling in the fine lines under our eyes and crow’s feet on top of masking off other skin imperfections – this, is quite self-explanatory by the name of it.
How many of us fell victims to facial lines and wrinkles so deep not only do they fail to be concealed, they appear even more visible? This sometimes happens because of the stark contrast the lines appear against the area around the eyes that you’d tried brighten with other concealers or setting powders. If not, products that are of runnier consistency like liquid foundations or concealers would settle in those facial skin fissures around the eye bags and crow’s feet, making your eyes look like there’s some spider web spindling going on there.
Now unless you don’t mind going for a Halloween look just about every day, you may Benefit (ha! see the pun there?) from this stick concealer by taking years off the skin around your eyes the same way it takes off those furrows and flatten your facial ridges.
A Benefit Hydrating Eye Concealer Stick Review: Crease-Control on cruise control!
Packaging
The concealer stick comes in pretty much like a lipstick tube of a mirrored finish with the bottom twisting part multi-faceted, and a clasp cap femininely inscribed with pink decorative motifs and purple fonts pirouetting over it. The box that contains this echoes the design in beige with a pop of shocking pink at the top for a gimmicky shout-out. Needless to say, all these had me sucked in, already.
The concealer comes in 3 shades: light, medium and deep. Simple enough.
Consistency/ Pigment
It definitely feels a lot more hydrating than other stick concealers. On application it glides on the skin effortlessly because of the waxy component the stick has. Very light-weight too, your skin doesn’t feel it has anything on. The texture of it is not exactly thick or pigmented, so this makes layering under or over makeup fairly easy.
Price and Size
Retails at SGD$38.00 for 3.5 grams (0.12 oz) at Singapore Sephora stores and Benefit stores in Singapore.
The Benefit Fake Up Hydrating Crease-Control Eye Concealer – How it Works
Key Ingredients
Ricinus Communis (Castor Seed Oil): is a type of vegetable oil that is an emollient and skin conditioning agent to keep skin supple, soft and hydrated.
Pyrus Marus (Apple) Fruit Extract: is an effective skin astringent that helps to tighten the skin’s structure in reducing fine lines.
Brassica Campestris (Rapeseed) Sterols: Also known as Canola, it is an essential fatty acid commonly used in cellulite creams due to its quality of being able to improve skin’s elasticity and its natural barrier.
How to Apply
Apply in gentle strokes to build up coverage on affected areas such as under eye dark circles, light and dark spots, blemishes and acne scars. Blend gently with your ring fingers in an upward dabbing motion to even out any harsh edges.
Verdict:
The Benefit Fake Up Hydrating Crease-Control Concealer offers a sheer to medium coverage, so if you’re those who prefer full coverage, this may not be your thing. It works fine in masking age spots and blemishes but it isn’t the best for tackling dark circles or puffiness. That said, I find that the amount of pay-off is just right if you want to pull off a more natural look, like I do.
Although the great degree of hydration it offers kind of outplays the power of covering up (notice how much of that colorless waxy, moisturizing layer surrounds that center core of nude-colored pigment), a little hint of shadows under your eyes is only human. Many of us tend to over-pack concealing products, sometimes right up to the edge of our bottom waterline; this doesn’t make you look flawless, it makes puffy eyes even puffier and if not well blended, makes you look like you’d forgotten to remove your shades while tanning.
What I love most about this product is that it lifts eye bags! Notice how my eye bag becomes less saggy – this must be the constricting effect from the rapeseed oil. It is also super easy to blend out and build up the coverage and it has excellent adaptability and works like your second skin. It blends well even with powder foundation whether it is applied before or after it. The skin around the eyes do not feel dry or tight even after a few hours of wearing and the concealer holds quite true to its promise – it reduces your under eye expression lines by quite a fair bit. However that is only true on the under eye areas. Try not to apply it on oilier areas like eyelids because if you have oily lids like I do, the pigment may still collect at your crow’s feet after some time.
