Chanel Sublimage La Créme Lumiére Review

Chanel Sublimage La Créme Lumiére was released in 2020 as an extension of its Sublimage line, a superior collection that focuses on anti-aging and skin regeneration for radiant, glowy skin. The La Créme Lumiére was created to enhance skin luminosity and even out skin tone through cell regeneration. As with all reviews, I’ll share my initial impressions, followed by the journey and results of my experience.
My Experience with Chanel Sublimage La Créme Lumiére
First Impressions: Texture & Scent
The Chanel Sublimage La Créme Lumiére feels neither rich nor sheer; neither heavy nor light. This moisturising cream glides like silk and takes no time to get absorbed by the skin. While the scent smells florally, it comes as quite strong and took some adjustment for me.
Visible Results: Brightness, Radiance, and Skin Tone
The skin brightening result is evident, however, by ‘bright’ it does not mean glow. I realise that Chanel Sublimage La Créme Lumiére does not deliver luminosity or translucency. It just lightens the skin tone. Fortunately, the cream does reduce the intensity of some of my dark spots.
Those who’ve read me long enough would’ve known that my skin is prone to redness around the nose and cheeks. The Chanel Sublimage La Créme Lumiére is supposed to even out skin tone, i.e. reduce redness during the course of it. Yet, as seen in the photo above, it spreads the redness (less intense nonetheless) to my chin and forehead areas now. This may be due to the product’s micro-circulatory properties.
Hydration Quality
The Chanel Sublimage La Créme Lumiére provides ample hydration for the skin. It is moisturising enough to keep my skin supple and soft through air-conditioned nights without feeling dry the next morning. Throughout the 6 months I’d been using this product, my skin remains nourished and comfortable.
Chanel Sublimage La Créme Lumiére’s Key Ingredients for Regeneration & Radiance
Polyfractioned Vanilla Planifolia: The Star Ingredient
I’ve mentioned this star key ingredient in my other Chanel Sublimage reviews, where Vanilla Planifolia is noted for its skin-regenerating power, stimulating cell renewal and growth. The fruits and flower of Vanilla Planifolia undergo a patented process called PolyFractioning, to significantly increase the concentration and purity of its most potent active molecules. This is done so that it maximizes its anti-aging and revitalizing benefits for the skin.
Anthyllis Extract: Unifying and Illuminating Power
Natural Anthyllis flower extract is the active ingredient that helps to regulate pigmentation and reduce discolouration, harmonising the skin tone. The wild Alpine flower is known for its ability to thrive in harsh environments by drawing strength from light. Thus, by building its own robust defenses, its extract helps to fortify the skin’s natural barrier, thereby “adapting” to and reducing the impact of environmental stressors like UV radiation and free radicals.
Vanilla Planifolia Water, Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide
Vanilla Planifolia Water serves as a base to complement the Polyfractioned Vanilla Planifolia Extract by offering soothing hydration and broad antioxidant protection.
Hyaluronic acid helps to attracts and holds onto moisture for the skin. While naturally-occurring in our body, this humectant component gives a boost to the Chanel Sublimage La Créme Lumiére in improving skin elasticity, suppleness and radiance.
Niacinamide is also called Vitamin B3, a powerful ingredient that helps to fade hyperpigmentation, dark spots, and redness. Niacinamide also helps reduce the appearance of pores, fine lines and wrinkles. Like Anthyllis flower extract, Niacinamide also offers antioxidant benefits, protecting the skin from free radical damage caused by environmental factors.
Who Is Chanel Sublimage La Créme Lumiére For?
Skin Types
Chanel’s Sublimage line is formulated with high-quality ingredients and widely well-tolerated. It is generally suitable for all skin types, but do note that there are fragrance and denatured alcohol components for those with dry or sensitive skin. If you have very sensitive skin, it’s always advisable to patch test first. Additionally, if you have combination or oily skin type like mine, you can still include the Chanel Sublimage La Créme Lumiére in your skin care routine. However, do read on further to find out how.
Skin Age and Concerns
If you have uneven toned skin, mature skin, dullness, or hyperpigmentation in your skin, I’d suggest giving it a try for its hydrating, regenerating, brightening and anti-aging properties.
How to Incorporate La Créme Lumiére into Your Routine
The Chanel Sublimage La Créme Lumiére is a versatile moisturiser that can be used for both morning and night. Though, I have to emphasise that if you have combination to oily skin, it suffices to use it for only the night time. The reason being, my skin tends to get oily in the day. As the texture of the La Créme Lumiére is rather sleek, sebum and perspiration may interfere with the product from getting absorbed fully. This can also create unwanted shine under makeup in the daytime.
Chanel Sublimage La Créme Lumiére Application Tips and Techniques (“Geste Lumière”)
Chanel recommends a skincare ritual known as the Geste Lumiére (“Light Gesture”) for using their Sublimage La Crème Lumière and other products in the Sublimage Lumière line. It is an application massage technique to activate microcirculation and enhance product penetration, in boosting skin evenness and luminosity. I could not find any video on Geste Lumiére pe se, however, there is a Sublimage skincare ritual video on YouTube in which the Sublimage line was featured.
Start by applying the Chanel Sublimage La Créme Lumiére tp the forehead, cheeks and neck. With both hands, smooth the product from the center of your face outwards. On each side, use alternating outward strokes (x2) from the middle of your forehead to temple, nose to ear, and corner of lips to jaw angle. The same applies from chin to ear; then, continue down to your collarbone.
Pairing Chanel Sublimage La Créme Lumiére with Other Lumiére Products
For best results, as the brand says, use the Chanel Sublimage La Créme Lumiére after La Lotion Lumiére and L’Essence Lumiére. The lotion preps the skin through exfoliation, and the essence provides concentrated nourishment to the skin. The La Créme Lumiére then comes in as the final step to lock the benefits in.
Is Chanel Sublimage La Créme Lumiére Worth the Investment?
Comparing Chanel Sublimage La Créme Lumiére to Other High-End Illuminating Creams
We can benchmark the Chanel Sublimage La Créme Lumiére against a handful of comparable luxury radiance creams in the segment. To do this, we need to weigh up benefits like improving dullness and skin luminosity, evening out skin tones, correcting discolouration, fading age spots, and overall age-reversal.
La Prairie White Caviar Crème Extraordinaire (S$1,300.00 for 60ml), Dior Prestige La Crème Lumière (S$743.00 for 50ml), Estée Lauder Re-Nutriv Ultimate Diamond Transformative Brilliance Soft Créme (S$567.00 for 50ml), and Guerlain Abeille Royale Clarify & Repair Crème (S$230.00 for 50ml) are a notable few worth looking into. Obviously, the brands’ research histories, scientific innovations, proprietary techniques, key ingredients used, etc, vary. However, given the numerous accolades, clinical claims, and price point, the Estée Lauder Re-Nutriv Ultimate Diamond Transformative Brilliance Soft Crème is arguably the strongest contender for me. The Chanel Sublimage La Créme Lumiére retails at S$640.00 50ml Singapore Chanel beauty boutiques and online store.
Final Verdict on Chanel Sublimage La Créme Lumiére
If you are looking for a “lit from within” glow or, “light-reflecting” skin, as what this product promises to deliver, I’d say there are better value-for-money options out there. But if you want a luxurious and hydrating moisturiser to lighten your skin tone and dark spots, this may be your thing. Regardless, one might say I have not tried the full Sublimage Lumiére range (La Lotion Lumiére Exfoliante & L’Essence Lumiére) to unleash the full potential of Chanel Sublimage La Créme Lumiére.
The thing is, I’ve used Chanel Sublimage L’extrait de Créme with other pre-moisturiser products as well. Trust me when I say, the L’extrait de Créme achieves natural skin glow more effectively than La Créme Lumiére does. Ultimately, it’s about the product’s potency in skin repair for naturally healthy radiance. Despite being called “Lumiére”, meaning “Light”, the Chanel Sublimage La Créme Lumiére isn’t the most illuminating player in the Sublimage lineup.
