Shiseido Elixir Supérieur Enriched Wrinkle Cream Review

Shiseido Elixir Supérieur Enriched Wrinkle Cream 22g

The Shiseido Elixir Supérieur Enriched Wrinkle Cream didn’t take too long for me to try, grow on and finally, express a favourable opinion of in this blog review. I’d first experienced the Shiseido Elixir brand when I’ve used its Day Care Revolution SPF 30++++ a few years ago which I bought on a whim at a drugstore in Japan. I didn’t think much of their sunscreen then, but when I got around to use their enriched wrinkle cream recently, much of my impression of Shiseido Elixir has changed – for the better.

Best Retinol Eye Cream?

The best part of retinol products is that they deliver results fast (result visible in 2 weeks in my case), especially in eye creams for me, where the wrinkles around my eyes are the most evident. Retinol burns, as we know, can irritate the delicate skin around the eyes for those with sensitive skin. But when you are saved from such side effects, retinol can do wonders in terms of skin smoothening and the clarification of acne, among other benefits. Some of us take time to adjust to retinol, while some may need to avoid it completely if dryness, flakiness and redness worsens. If you are prone to the latter, skip this product and you may want to watch this video below to find out which plant-based ingredient is being claimed by this luxury brand to be as effective as retinol. For those of you who’ve watched or read me over the past months would know how bad my under eye wrinkles had been even the below mentioned luxury brand could not help me with their eye concentrate (as you will get to see later in the video).

So fortunately for me, my skin has always reacted well to retinol products. Skin fortification in my skincare routine over the years also helped increase my skin’s adaptability to a wider range of ingredients as well.

The Shiseido Superieur Elixir Enriched Wrinkle Cream is safe enough to be used around around the eyes and the mouth, targeting at reducing wrinkles and fine lines in those areas, and in the process of doing so, increases hyaluronic acid production and enhances moisture retention in our skin.

Shiseido Elixir Supérieur Enriched Wrinkle Cream Ingredients

So let’s go through the ingredients of the Shiseido Elixir Superieur Enriched Wrinkle Cream. The active ingredients are Retinol and DL-Alpha-Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E). I’ve mentioned the pros and cons of retinol earlier on, so let me just share a little on the other active ingredient, the Tocopheryl Acetate. Do note that DL-alpha is the synthetic form of D-alpha of Tocopherol and can be only half as potent (and absorbable). The acetate form of it in this case helps to lengthen its shelf life by delaying oxidation. So now that we get this out of the way, the DL-alpha Tocopheryl Acetate is essentially the vitamin E that contains anti-oxidative and antipollution properties which help with the fortification of the skin barrier against UV rays , sun damages and any other harmful free radicals that may speed up skin cell damage and skin aging. Together with Retinol, this active duo has the capability to benefit aging skin in the long term. Other ingredients include water-soluble collagen, glycerin, butylene glycol, propylene glycol, sodium hyaluronate, elastin, yeast extract, Sodium Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, etc.

How To Use:

The Shiseido Elixir Superieur enriched winkle cream is recommended to be used twice a day on cleansed skin. Try to lay over with a makeup product with SPF UV protection after the morning application. Otherwise, use it only at night like me. I prefer to let it work on my skin overnight where the sun is down so you won’t risk making your skin more sensitive to UV rays as well as to prevent the efficacy of the product from decreasing. Dispense only a grain-sized amount as seen above (the back of the packaging indicates the exact size of the amount to be used) and apply it to areas with creases such as the under eye areas, the crow’s feet, as well as your nasolabial folds beside the mouth.

Verdict:

Retinol Product For even Dry Skin?

Most side effects reported with the use of retinol products for first-timers or sensitive skin have to do with skin dryness such as tightness, peeling and flaky and scaly skin as the skin comes under exfoliation. I’ve got combination dehydrated skin type and was lucky enough not to even have experienced the “it gets worse before it gets better” phase with this retinol product. I’m guessing it has to do with most of the non-active ingredients listed which are humectants and thickeners used to attract moisture as well as stabilising and retaining the hydration level in our skin. Do not quote me on this but personally I feel that the Shiseido Elixir Superieur Enriched Wrinkle Cream may work even for dry skin because of its capability to hold and lock in water without the presence of lipids (in the case of dry skin that lacks oil) to do the same. I’m not sure how long the effect of this retinol anti-wrinkle cream will last on me but it’s been a month and a half with this product and only tapering it off after three months (recommended in general) will tell if my wrinkle improvements can sustain without it.
