A Chanel perfume for both men and women basically condenses my Paris-Edimbourg EDT fragrance review, of which is the latest and most androgynous to the Les Eaux de Chanel line. Chanel’s Les Eaux collection is free-spirited, a little wild, and is inspired by some of Coco Chanel’s favourite vacation spots; one of them being the capital city of Scotland – Edinburgh.
Chanel Paris-Edimbourg – A Fall Fragrance Review
The Chanel Paris-Edimbourg is a fall fragrance to me through and through. I get why some think this is a summer fragrance because of the initial spritz of the top notes which can be deceiving. I’ve tried the Chanel Paris-Edimbourg in various ways – and the first spritz into the air is the one that gets you into the greens.
The top notes are Cypress and Juniper Berries. The initial whiff was super up-lifting; one that puts you on a fresh start to a day mood as soon as it is sprayed into the air as you walk through that cloud of mist. Cypress is known for its evergreen freshness and slight woodiness. But perhaps because it is used as a top note in this case, I could only pick up the verdant side of it. Juniper berries have some tanginess to them and they smell sanitary. When combined, fresh, clean and green is the only way I could describe the scent before it settles.
The heart notes are Cedar, Vetiver and Lavender. If you’ve ever been to coniferous forests like the sequoia forest, you’d know cypresses and cedars smell rather similar; woodsy and earthy at the same time. They don’t nearly smell as sharp as pine, but still bring about the wintry crisps nonetheless . This is what made the transition from the top to heart notes a smooth one. Vetiver is the one that gives the smoky linger this fragrance distinctively harnesses; it is also the component that ties well with what the perfumer behind this fragrance, Olivier Polge, described about his creation – “Both fresh and woody, PARIS-ÉDIMBOURG could be the fragrance of a tweed jacket borrowed from the men’s wardrobe.” This saying nearly bring the Paris-Edimbourg perfume to life – I said nearly because there is a mildest touch to it that is missing, which could’ve otherwise completed the story for me. I’ve done a detailed review of the Chanel Paris-Edimbourg EDT in the video below. I’ve included mood inserts in the background and references to my trip to Edinburgh city back in 2015 in delivering a more sensory review experience, if you’re interested.
The base notes of this eau de toilette spray are musk and vanilla; musk being the one that weighs in heavier as it leaves the sillage of the first two notes behind. The drydown turns the autumnal heart of cedar icier, and the smoky vetiver slightly more leathery. The vanilla is something I wish could slowly unveil itself towards the end of wearing this perfume for that extra bit of comfort, however, nada. But as masculinity sets in, you begin to feel the warmth and fuzziness this perfume is trying to envelope you with – like a tweed jacket so thoughtfully draped over your back and shoulders by him as the night gets colder; now this part is so true, except, again, for that tiny-weeny bit of detail they’ve missed there as revealed in my video above.
Chanel Les Eaux Perfume for Men & Women
The Paris-Edimbourg EDT is said by many to be the most masculine of all in the Les Eaux de Chanel line. So far I’ve sampled Paris-Deauville, Paris-Riviera & Paris-Biarritz, but not Paris-Venise, yet. But from comparing these few, I’ll have to agree that Paris-Edinburgh leans more on the masculine side for men than the rest in the collection, even though as a woman myself, have enjoyed it as much. Various surfaces you spray on give off different experiences too. I’ve tried it free-fall style (walking through it whilst the perfume is sprayed into space), on the skin (insides of wrists, behind the ears and clavicles) and on my cashmere scarves (for the lack of tweed), and of course other clothing fabrics. I’ve explained in detail how each of these surface textures bring about different projections from the note layers in my video, including mood imageries, so the viewers have visuals to connect with their sensations.
I’ve throughly enjoyed the Chanel Les Eaux Paris-Edimbourg because of how reminiscent it is of my Scotland trip to Edinburgh and also Glasgow. Scotland in a bottle, I call it, because it captures the verdure and lushness of the Scottish highlands, the gentleman’s demeanour present in the crisp, spice and woody notes (think leather and Scotch whisky), as well as the tweed fabric (a traditional Scottish icon) the creator has more or less my seal of approval to it.
