Mario Badescu Face Spray Review

The Mario Badescu Face Spray may seem rather straight forward to review, but it took quite a while for me to finally grasp how I could incorporate it into my skincare and makeup routine so as to benefit certain skin types, and why you should avoid it under certain conditions.

For a start, it is one of the best misunderstood facial spray for a face toner. I said ‘best’ because I think those who were like me; who bought this thinking that it is a skin toner spray, may eventually realise that it isn’t one, yet does more than toning. I know, mind-blown, right?

You may wish to watch this short video below in which I’ve compiled a few of my favourite face toners (including the Mario Badescu Face Spray in this one) and why I love them, plus a segment of force-shaking every one of them to assess their qualities and nutritional values to the skin.

Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Chamomile and Lavender Review

The Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Chamomile and Lavender has its fair share of negative reviews; that you’ll have to know. Even dermatologists are contributing to these critiques citing harsh ingredients that may irritate the skin.

Texture

Well, this is what I have to say: in terms of after-spray, the product does have a binding effect on the skin as it dries away, and because of this, contrary to what the brand says, I would not recommend anyone to spray this directly on bare skin without building a barrier in between the skin and the Mario Badescu Aloe Chamomile & Lavender facial spray first. So if you have dry skin type or sensitive skin, stay away from this face spray. If you are a combination skin type, do not use this on days when the weather is drier, or you can risk the skin getting tauter than just toned.

Scent

The Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Lavender, Aloe and Chamomile has a strong lavender scent. Though rather intense, it does give a spa-like vibe which can be calming.

Mario Badescu: Best Face Makeup Setting Spray for Oily Skin

This Mario Badescu facial spray is best used as a face makeup setting spray. I mentioned earlier that it is necessary to form a skin barrier before using this face spray because of its binding effect which can potentially irritate sensitive skin. So incorporating the Mario Badescu with Aloe, Chamomile and Lavender facial spray into your makeup routine by spraying it in between your skincare barrier (preferably moisturisers or lotions; cream of sorts) and makeup layers delivers the best result for your makeup to last longer on the skin. This is because not only does the product help to bind the makeup pigments from beneath, it also has sebum control properties which essentially reduces the oil produced by the skin from disintegrating the makeup further. The Mario Badescu face spray works best on setting makeup that makes up the canvasses of our faces, such as makeup base, bb or cc creams and foundations when sprayed on oily skin or skin with enlarged pores.

Do not, I repeat DO NOT spray over makeup. I do not get why people say this is great for spraying over makeup as a finishing touch. This face spray is hella strange; it gives you such a great hydration boost from the start, so much so it causes makeup to streak as it dries out. This is much worse if you spray it over powdered makeup.

Mario Badescu: Best Face Mist for Oily Skin

The best part of using this Mario Badescu spray as a face mist to set your makeup is that you don’t need a primer for your oily skin canvas!

On top of that, for oily and combination skin types, you can incorporate the Mario Badescu with Aloe, Chamomile and Lavender face spray as part of your skincare routine by simply misting over moisturiser or face cream, whichever is the last skincare product you apply, as a last, last step. Though I do not find it particularly having any anti-aging or brightening effect on my skin as what the brand claims, I do find it excellent in controlling my sebum production overnight so I don’t wake up with an oily face the next morning.

If you have oily t-zone but drier areas on the rest of the face, you might want to use this product less frequently or in a less direct manner, i.e., spraying it on to your palms and press gently onto your skin to finish up the night skin routine. This way you’re slowing down the rate at which the product enters the skin hence reducing the depth of its penetration, and therefore reducing the risk of drying your skin out more than necessary. It is also great for spot treatment on acne or pimples. You just need to spray it on your finger or a cotton swab and apply on the affected spots to speed up the healing.
