Rare Beauty (Sephora) by Selena Gomez

Today I’m doing a Rare Beauty Sephora review of a bunch of liquid matte makeup by Selena Gomez. Rare Beauty cosmetics is mostly of liquid this and liquid that, but Selena is clever to offer choices of mattes & dewies. However what makes her makeup line ingenious is the liquid to powder (in seconds!) formula. As an oily skin person, especially one who produces sebum right down to her eyelids, Rare Beauty is indeed a rare one in the seas of, well, mostly non-hard-wearing celebrity beauty brands in the market.

Best Liquid Eyeliner for Oily Hooded Eyelids | Rare Beauty Sephora

The best liquid eyeliner for my oily hooded eyelids has to go to the Rare Beauty Perfect Strokes Matte Liquid Liner (in black; the only shade available atm). Most reviewers raved about how sharp and precise the tip is but I am more impressed with its quick-drying formula.

Just look at my hooded eyelids; the reason why I see no point in applying eyeliner makeup sometimes is because it will either be concealed or smudged by my droopy eyelids anyway. But with Rare Beauty’s liquid matte eyeliner, I can attempt even bolder winged eyeliner looks in the demo video below (at 2:10 mark). I attribute this possibility to two things: one, the eyeliner pen has the feel of a writing pen, you know, those that you twiddle around with fingers during boring lectures. So the pen grip and weight makes it super easy to just flip and tip to work your angle with as you go along. Secondly, though the black shade isn’t exactly your kind of Kat Von D stark black, the fact that it mattes out as soon as you ink on is something I appreciate heaps. The photos above were taken about 3 hours after my makeup (just look at how oily my skin was just after 3 hours). The right photo shows you that the Perfect Strokes Matte Liquid Liner does not smudge on hooded eyelids even after 3 hours.

Sephora Rare Beauty Makeup by Selena Gomez Exclusive

Now let’s talk about the other stuff I picked up from Sephora – specifically Rare Beauty liquid matte makeup by Selena Gomez. The deluxe-sized lip soufflé matte lip cream came as a bonus freebie when I bought SGD$80 and above worth of Rare Beauty makeup products from Sephora at the time of purchase.

Rare Beauty Stay Vulnerable Liquid Eyeshadow in Nearly Neutral

The Rare Beauty Stay Vulnerable Liquid Eyeshadow is available in five shades (Nearly Neutral (featured here), Nearly Rose, Nearly Berry, Nearly Mauve, Nearly Apricot). The formula dries down fast so you’ll need to blend quickly before it mattifies. You can see it in action in the video above how fast it sets on to my lids. Rare Beauty says to blend their liquid shadows with fingers, however I feel that the powdery texture it later becomes is easier to blend out with a brush because it sets so fast it can be difficult to soften harden edges. But once the finish is all diffused out, you’ll see that the liquid eyeshadow formula is able to achieve a soft, dreamy eye makeup look. The Stay Vulnerable Liquid Eyeshadow is the only product out of this lot I’ve bought that is made in Italy (the rest are made in Korea).

Rare Beauty Matte Lipstick: Lip Soufflé Matte Lip Cream in Fearless

The Rare Beauty Lip Soufflé Matte Lip Cream is a matte lipstick that gives a comfortable, fluffy mattified finish on the lips. The way I liked applying this matte lip cream is by blending it out with my finger after applying one layer as seen in the video above. This is to blur the edges of the lips so they appear fuller, and to ensure that the product get into the lip lines and wrinkles so the lips appear smoother and plumper. The whipped texture of Rare Beauty’s Lip Soufflé Matte Lip Cream makes this softening technique possible because of how cushiony it is. It is not totally non-transferable though, but that I can understand as this is a little sacrifice the brand has to make in order not to cake the lips up. You’re spoilt for choice on this one in terms of shades. There are 12 shades in all – Daring, Transform, Heroic, Strengthen, Energize, Ascend, Inspire, Motivate, Thrilling, Fearless (featured here), Brave & Courage.

Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush in Bliss

The Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush is the second quickest drying (the liquid liner is the first). If you watch my video above, it takes me just a few taps to turn this liquid blush into powder. Now, you really need to blend super quickly before the blush sets. The trick is this – as we tend to apply our under eye concealer makeup first before blusher, you have to note that it is all the more challenging to blur out the edge where the blush on our cheek meets the concealer under the eye because the cream concealer sets the blush powder even faster. You can see that I’ve quickly switched to using a brush to buff out the liquid blush as soon as it turns powder, but there is still a faint hard line across above the cheeks if you look closely. I won’t encourage you to use a brush right from the start because you’ll need the warmth of our fingers to slow down the setting process. Perhaps the mistake I made was swirling it instead of patting it down, but I’d imagine patting such a quick-dry formula may result in a patchy job. Rare Beauty’s Soft Pinch Liquid Blush offers 4 matte shades (Bliss, Love, Grace, Faith) and 4 dewy shades (Joy, Lucky, Happy, Grateful). The dewy blend may give us more time to blend, just saying.
