Eyebrow Clear Gel Mascara | Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Freeze Review

I call it an eyebrow gel mascara because this literally is a clear brow gel in a pot. I’ve come to you with the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Freeze review after I’d played with it for a few weeks now.

Eyebrow Gel Mascara Clear Styling Wax ABH Brow Freeze Review

So this eyebrow gel mascara clear styling wax a.k.a the ABH Brow Freeze got sold out as soon as Sephora Singapore rolled out their 25% off sale to Gold and Black members recently. Just a couple of months back in their stores, when this product was still labeled as a new arrival, I got it at SGD$28 on a normal day (usual price SGD$38.00 for 6ml) as those little boxes of brow freezes just stacked frozen on the top self with shoppers passing them by. By that time, the reviews of this eyebrow wax had already been all over Youtube, so I was thinking to myself, poor fellow didn’t have a fair shot at being properly visual-merchandised before becoming a sale item too soon.

Some of the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Freeze reviews I’ve seen were done on brows that other brow products were already piled on – brow pomade, eyebrow pencil, eyebrow tint, etc. So unless the reviewers go up-close to the camera, it is hard to see the full effect of this ABH brow styling wax with the base makeup already on. But I get that if you have sparse or thin brows, using a clear brow gel like this may just accentuate the lack of brow hairs. I have thin and uneven brow shapes to begin with. But I wouldn’t want to have bushy eyebrows either. I just want them to look fuller but like, they’re still my natural brow hairs; you know what I mean. And so there’re two things I did differently here: I took to using just a little eyebrow pencil to deposit a little pigment starting from the middle to outer ends of the brows, leaving the brow head sections completely empty. Secondly, instead of using a spoolie brush like most do, I opted for a Q-tip (cotton swab). And here’s the result I have by the end of the video.

Texture

Firm gel-like, almost like a balm or salve of sorts. Because it sets so fast (less than a minute), I find myself rushing to close the lid each time I dipped into the product for the fear of drying up the rest of it in the pot much. But there might be a better reason you want to do that – the scent.

Scent

It carries a very mild sweet smell, mainly due to an ingredient called D-Sorbitol, a sugar alcohol used as a thickening and emulsifying agent. So you may really want to remember to shut the lid each time after use for this reason; you wouldn’t want to find ants crawling all over your makeup the next time you reach for it.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Freeze: Clear Eyebrow Styling Wax Review

The Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Freeze works like there’s no time to waste. I mean, I’ve used clear or tinted eyebrow styling gels and mascaras except for soaps, but I read that even eyebrow soaps don’t set brow hairs as fast as this brow wax. This is a super quick-dry formula and I like it not only for that fact but also for the structure it gives by lifting and holding those eyebrow hairs in shape and place. There were reviews saying that it can last all day but personally, the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Freeze could only last me for about 3 to 4 hours at best. Into the 3rd hour my brow hairs started to go limp. The structure of it gave way, but at least my brows still look full and feathery with their shapes still intact.

Depending on your skills, this clear brow styling wax can help to shape and attain fuller fluffy, feathery eyebrows to fierce, bushy boy brows. You could see how I struggled racing against time halfway working on my second brow in the video above. Well alas, it was a little too late. Will using a spoolie brush help? Yes and no. It really depends on your desired brow style. While the fine bristles of a spoolie coat and distribute the brow wax on the eyebrow hairs more effectively, they comb them away from the brow bone. If you’re into ‘3D’ bushy or runway brows, I’d say, use a spoolie. But no, all I wanted were thicker strands of brow hairs so they look like I own them naturally. I still find using a Q-tip to apply this ABH Brow Freeze works better in my case. Firstly, I just want to look like I’ve got more brow hairs; not necessarily wild or hair-raising, so a cotton swab can adhere them better to the brow bones. Secondly, you have better control over not messing with the eyebrow pencil or pomade product applied beforehand when you use a Q-tip for the brow wax application. Spoolie messes with your brow canvas more just because the bristles are harsher and dense. But at the end of the day, use whatever tool you work with best towards the kind of eyebrow style and look you’re going for; just make sure you work FAST ;).
