Pixi Glow Tonic Toner Review

The Pixi Glow Tonic toner is one of the most versatile face toners I’ve ever used. I’m sure you’ve come across a ton of reviews about this Pixi glycolic acid toner, but have you experimented with it enough for your skin’s ever-changing needs?

Pixi Glow Tonic: Best Face Toner for Dry & Sensitive Skin

I’ve found Pixi Glow Tonic to be the best face toner for my dry skin areas on slightly cooler and drier days, and also when I tend to have sensitive skin during the time of the month. Dry skin girls tend to stay away from facial toners because of their oil-removing properties that can strip off the skin’s natural oils. But if you know the right ingredients to pick and the ways to apply them, dry and sensitive skins can benefit a lot more from using face toners.

Pixi Tonic is a mild Glycolic Acid Toner

The Pixi Glow Tonic contains 5% glycolic acid, a very safe amount compared to other glycolic acid toners. Most face washes and toners have a an average percentage of 10% glycolic acid because this is a comfortable level our skin can typically take. Though not the gentlest AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) chemical exfoliants, the low percentage of glycolic acid in this toner makes it gentle enough even for sensitive skin. Unlike salicylic acid that penetrates deeper tissues and follicles, glycolic acid has the ability to unclog pores in removing excess oil, bacteria and dead skin cells from the outermost layer of the skin ( stratum corneum) without going in too deep. Glycolic acid peeling allows exfoliation for skin cell renewal in brightening and smoothening the skin as well as reducing the occurrence of acne breakout without stripping off more oil than necessary.

On my sensitive skin days (post-travel days & during my monthlies) when my skin got burnt or dried out, as well as due to hormonal fluctuations resulting in the skin’s pH imbalance and acne-prone skin, I use this Pixi Glow Tonic differently by doing spot treatment on my break outs. On my dry skin days, I use this toner as a mask application by dampening a few large cotton pads with water first before soaking them with the product so as to induce faster absorption at the same time thin down the acid. You don’t want to apply it the usual way by dragging the cotton pads on the already dry and sensitive skin which can be abrasive. Below is a quick video demo of how the Pixi Glow Tonic can be used in more than one way with different skin types and conditions.

Pixi Glow Tonic: Best Face Toner for Combination & Oily Skin

This Pixi Glow Tonic is also one of the best face toners to be used for oily and combination skin.

My T-zone gets oily all the time and this excess sebum production sometimes spread to my dry/ normal skin areas (such as my midface and jaw regions) on humid days. And because of how mild and non-stripping this toner is, I can place a few large soaked cotton pads on my entire face for 10 minutes for optimal absorption of the product. I’ve never had the habit of wiping my skin down with toner on cotton pads because for one, it can aggravate and dry out the skin, and two, the product doesn’t penetrate as well as compared to when you lay the cotton pads over your face similar to mask application allowing time and gravity for the skin to take it all in. That being said, try not to exceed 10 mins of masking time because toners are astringents after all, they may irritate and cause redness or patchiness to the skin over prolonged contact.

I have combination skin on normal days and dehydrated skin on cooler days when the lower half of my face is usually dry (this video about my dehydrated skin explains my kind of skin type and skin age in detail), so I’ve realised the importance of switching face toners from time to time to cater for my skin’s needs at different times of the month and year.

Pixi Glow Tonic: Best Face Toner for Acne Prone Skin

Pixi Glow Tonic is not just the best face toner to work with for all skin types but is also effective for acne-prone skin. Acne does not only happen to oily skin; dry skin is also susceptible to breakouts especially when there’s formation of dead skins due to peeling, or when bacteria is trapped, pores can still get clogged leading to inflammation. Because this toner makes spot treating possible (great that the bottle comes with a tiny hole from which the product can drip out), you don’t have to use it anywhere else except the problematic spots on the face if you want to. The Pixi Glow Tonic contains anti-acne ingredients – witch hazel water which fights inflammation as well as horse chestnut seed extract that has pore-refining and blood circulatory properties. It dries up the acne just to the point of healing the wound followed by the fading of the scars & blemishes and does not make the skin around the acne feel taut while it does the self-repairing. Besides, this toner has great oil-control properties which prevent the sebaceous glands from over-producing sebum, the most common cause of acne.

Pixi Beauty Glow Tonic Toner Review & Verdict

The Pixi Glow Tonic is not only versatile but effective and non-drying. This facial toner claims to be alcohol-free, however it does contain butylene glycol, with the role of improving the consistency of the formula as well as the penetration of the product as it is also a humectant that draws moisture into the skin. This proved to be true as the Pixi Beauty Glow Tonic does a good job in conditioning the skin barrier with quick cell turnover and skin recovery time. Pixi Beauty does what it says of this universal face toner and I agree with the vast positive reviews of it.
