Clarins Sunscreen Wrinkle Control Cream

Who wants wrinkled and pigmented skin this new year? I know I don’t. Upon my trip back to Singapore a couple of months back, I picked up the Clarins Sun Wrinkle Control Cream for Face from Shilla duty free  shop at Changi airport. I know it is a matter of time that Singapore’s weather is going to resume back its scorching ways; for the majority of the year anyways. The current cooler winter months are just but for us to carpe diem every year. Now even in the rainy months of November through January, we are not exactly spared from the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays. Rain or shine, we got to have sun protection for our skin.

Clarins Sun Wrinkled Control Cream For Face

Clarins Sunscreen For Face & Facial Moisturizer For Sensitive Skin as well!

Packaging

The Clarins Sun Wrinkle Control Cream comes in a typical sunscreen squeeze tube of a orange-yellow citrusy color as bright as the glow of the sun.

Consistency

The product is a white cream with heavy base but is easily absorbed when applied onto the skin.

How to Apply

As with all sun protection products, we suggest applying it by a dabbing/ patting manner until the product is absorbed. Sunscreen ingredients can be heavily-textured, so if your skin is prone to acne, do not massage it into the skin so that pore-clogging can be prevented.

Fragrance

Yes it does carry a strong “sunscreen/ sunblock” lotion smell to it; like you’ve just stepped into the changing room of a public swimming pool.

Size and Price

It comes in a 75ml (2.6 fl oz) sized tube and retails at SGD$36 at Shilla Duty Free shop at Changi airport. Its full retail price is SGD$40+ (we’re not exactly sure) at Clarins’ counters in major departmental stores.

Clarins Sunscreen Ingredients

How it Works: The Active Ingredients

Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice – protects the skin from UV and free radical damages  by inducing moisture into the skin in maintaining its suppleness and reduces photo-ageing. It is beneficial to those with dry or flaky skin.

Pisum Sativum (Pea) Extract on skin – contains proteases, enzymes that help to restore the skin’s protein (collagen) and amino acids, hence improving the skin’s texture and appearance.

Sunflower Seed Oil – Besides providing sun protection properties for the skin, it also prevents acne due to its antibacterial quality. It protects the skin from contact with environmental pollutants which can cause skin irritations and infections.

Cassia Alata (Senna Alata) Leaf Extract – is a common ingredient used in anti-acne solutions. It has antifungal, antibacterial and antimicrobial properties hence making this cream a very safe product for even sensitive skin.

Sun Protection Factor 30 (SPF 30)

This Clarins product offers high sun protection from both UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays are generally more harmful as it is able to penetrate deeper into our skin in causing damages. However, both have to be shielded as they can potentially attribute to skin cancer. While no sunscreens gives 100% sun protection, an SPF 30 rating is able to block off 97% of UVB rays. The rule of thumb is, the higher the SPF rating, the more UVB rays can be blocked off.

Higher SPF does not necessarily mean it is more effective. The efficiency of the usage depends on how religiously you re-apply it once the interval for your skin not to get sunburnt is over. In this case, SPF 30 is a measurement to say that  the product is able to protect your skin 30 more times longer than without it. For example, if you skin begins to get reddened or burnt after 15 minutes under sun exposure, a sunscreen with SPF 30 enables you to be in the same situation for 7.5 hours, theoretically. In any case, one should apply sunscreen once every two to 3 hours if you are out in the sun or even working indoors near a window.

Clarins Sun Wrinkle Control Cream For Face Review

The Clarins Sun Wrinkle Control cream is indeed more than just a sunscreen as it is quite moisturizing, it provides a relatively good base for foundation and make up. As such it doubles up as a facial moisturizer as well as sunscreen for the face.

After using it for close to 2.5 months now, I would say it is a nice product to have – it does not break my skin out – not even once. The product contains Phyto-Sunactyl 2 Complex which promotes even tanning of the skin; while I do not get the tan, I noticed some spots lightened. The texture is velvety and non-sticky. The only thing that puts me off is the sunscreen smell that can be a little strong.
