The Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner Review
What makes a pair of bedroom eyes? We know what makes those soulful windows beckoning and give-the-come-ons are more than just that winged eyeliner you occasionally flick off the ends of them. What if that eyeliner is in midnight blue? It just shouts enigma and placidity. And that’s bedroom eyes on another level.
The Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in ‘Midnight’ is raved not only because of its unconventional shade or that Essie Button’s blue lined eyes have that millions thronging after her, but their cutting-edge felt tip that offers quite the precise artistry. Like a felt pen, the cap is pulled to pop open and the downy but compacted brush tapers down to a T. The cap clicks to close, but not before you feel a spring mechanism inside it.
With a tip this fine and fray-less feathery fibers that sweep ink down with consistent fluency, you could screech eye-lining to a halt anytime before picking it up from wherever you left and the unification of the lines will still look like they’d never been separated before. The brush remains pliable throughout and the application is smooth; apply more pressure for a thicker line and go easier for an airier stroke.
The Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner retails at SGD$28.00 at Singapore Sephora outlets.
How To Apply Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eye Liner for Beginners
Shake the pen well before using it. Hold the pen at an angle and start applying in one continuous stroke with the first contact point being where your lash line converges with your lid fold. Trail off at the 3rd quarter of the eye’s length and begin your 2nd stroke from the point at the end of your lower lash line and flick upwards, towards the direction of the end of your brow. Now join the two ends of the lines you’d just created to form a triangle. Fill up the triangle to complete the wing.
Note: If you have bulgier eyelid folds (in the case of hooded eyes) or lids with stretched skin, simply tug gently at the eye’s upper corner to increase skin’s tautness to prevent the color from bleeding.
Completed look with Stila Midnight Liquid Eyeliner under different light intensities
Whatever Stila says on its package – smudge-proof, fast drying, long wearing, etc, they are all true. If the intention is to smudge this baby out, make sure you do it within seconds after you’ve applied it. Because the pigments lock into your skin in a matter of seconds. The precision of the marker-like tip is therefore very necessary and well leveraged, otherwise we may have to spend some time having to clean some mistakes up with a makeup remover as we go along. The first coat has a 80% opacity to it (as seen on the hand swatch) and is buildable to full coverage on the second.
For hooded eyes like myself here, have your eyes remain half-closed during application and a good 5 to six seconds after that. Because if you open your eyes wide immediately after the eyeliner is applied, it doesn’t dry fast enough for it not to be smudged by your skin folding. I know. Such is the peril of hidden creases!
It is not about stepping out of the black eyeliner’s comfort zone when we first picked this product up. After all black is the same colour as our natural lashes and by using a black eyeliner the intention is to accentuate what we already have (for Asians in this context). The midnight blue shade has a way of softening your look AND accentuating it at the same time. It sends a mystic and vulnerable mien to the wearer, making one less intimidating. It also brings out the natural eye color as the eyeliner does not overpower it, thus is also perfect for a doe-eyed makeup look.
This eye liner has a total of 15 shades to pull off different eye looks that put eye shadows to shame. So if you are in a hurry, ditch the shadows and let the silhouettes do the talking.
